Adetoun O. Ilumoka (Ph.D.)

Dr Adetoun Ilumoka was born and raised in Nigeria, mainly in the city of Lagos. She is a qualified solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, called to the Bar in June 1982. She has been an active campaigner for social justice, gender equality and equity and anti-racism since the 1980s working through several local and international organisations. She has done extensive policy research and advocacy on human rights and social justice and the linkages between gender roles, economic empowerment and women’s health including modern trends in violence against women and young girls and multi-pronged approaches to combatting it. Recently, her work has focused on women’s land rights and economic empowerment and promoting basic education as a means of poverty eradication. She is passionate about developing linkages between feminist and social justice organisations as part of movement building for effective advocacy for social change. An experienced academic and activist, Dr Ilumoka is a member of several local and international social justice networks and has participated actively in international policy and advocacy initiatives. She is the Managing Partner of AOIA Consultancy Services and convenor of the EMPARC Youth Initiative.
